Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan

Do you fancy curry fish head?

Dishes like this are pretty common in Malaysia. I had dinner here over a few weekends ago with my peeps. This is the Chinese-style of cooking, I tried mamak-style and it was great and has more spices compared to this. Let’s see what we ordered and portions are served for four person.

Dish #1: Foo Yong Omelette

Just like many foo yong omelettes, it has shallots and shrimps but they are missing out the red chillies. I don’t quite remember having them. What I love from this dish is the shrimps are fresh! I’m very particular on freshness of the shrimp and this was good.

Price: MYR 16.00

Dish #2: Sweet and Sour Pork

Chunky fried pork stir fried with sweet and sour sauce with carrots, green capsicums and shallots. The sauce of this dish is not not overly sour or sweet, pretty balanced. The fried pork is quite aromatic, crunchy outside and tender on the inside. The vegetables adds into freshness of the dish. Not bad at all, worth trying!

Price: MYR 22.00

Dish #3: Curry Fish Head (Large)

I expected more then it comes to this dish. If you look at it closely from the image, there’s more vegetables than the fish eh? I can hardly see a whole of a fish head and kind of make it less authentic.  It has lots of vegetables like lady’s finger, egg plant, long beans and cabbage. The curry is very fragrant but I felt like it’s still missing something, probably because I didn’t get to see the fish head. The only thing I like about this dish is it’s served in a clay pot which helps to preserved the warmth of the dish.

Price: MYR 68.00

I reckon the dishes are just average, nothing to go for always. The price of the dishes are pretty pricey especially the ordinary ones besides the curry fish head.  This restaurant is air-condition but you also get to choose to sit at the outside.  Other charges involved are:

  • Rice – MYR 1.50 per bowl
  • Wet towel – MYR 0.90 per piece

There isn’t any tax charges and below is the location of the restaurant. Reminder this is not recommended for Muslims as they are served pork.  *wink*

The Authenticity of Yummy Taiwan

Lately been discovering loads of Taiwanese food around. This time we look into Yummy Taiwan. Love the simple interior of the restaurant.

I came across this restaurant when I received the previous promotional flyer. Previously, I had it when they had buy 1 and second is only for MYR1. Quite a good deal huh?

Until lately, I have gotten their latest promotion where you buy 1 and get the second one for 50% discount. In order to redeem such promotion, you have to flash this flyer. They are actively giving out some outside of Fahrenheit 88 and/or around Bukit Bintang area. Their dishes from the flyer seems to be promising but do they?

Dish #1: Stew Pork Rice Set Meal

It comes with a bowl of rice with stewed pork and pickled vegetables. It also came along with some side dishes of taro balls with tuna, hard boiled egg with bean curd puff and chunky chilly sauce.  The flavor of the stew pork was pretty good just that the meat given was a little too much lard in it. Combining with the pickled vegetables, it taste pretty refreshing. I reckon the rice isn’t just plain white rice, it somehow has some herbal flavor to it. The hard boiled egg with bean curd puff is great to go along with the rice. Taro balls and tuna combination is just weird. To me, taro balls are just meant for desserts and with the tuna placed beside it, sometimes it makes the taro ball tasted fishy.

Price: MYR 10.90

DISH #2: Beef Noodle Set Meal

This beef noodle comes with soup, bean sprouts and ‘bok choy’. This is also a set meal, it comes with side dish tuna with taro balls (just like the previous dish), local pickled vegetables and chilly oil. The soup base for the beef noodle is not intense enough, it just doesn’t give enough ‘umph’ and I would put the noodle rating as average. The pickled vegetable is crunchy, me likey.

Price: MYR13.90

Dish #3: Hot Crispy Chicken Rice Set Meal

This chicken in this dish is like a size of a chicken chop You can imagine how big is the piece of chicken when you look at the size of the rice. The rice size is the same amount from the first dish earlier. It is serve with pickled vegetables and side dishes of tuna and taro balls and chilly sauce (which I forgot to snap a picture of, to excited over the size of the chicken). I love this dish! The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Because the meat is juicy, the meat maintains it moisture without being too drying to consume. I recommend this dish!

Price: MYR 11.50

Snowflake: Taiwanese Dessert Secrets

Most Malaysian especially who stays or visited Kuala Lumpur, they probably know that this is one of the famous dessert house, Snowflake that you can find and this is definitely one of my favorite stops for its awesome taro balls!

They serve 100% natural goodness of Taiwanese desserts with no artificial flavoring and preservatives. They promise that everything is handmade and made fresh daily, providing the best service and ensure customers be able to enjoy their desserts in an enjoyable and clean environment. They use the best, natural and freshest ingredients to make the desserts. At the moment, they have not been certified halal but they only use beans, fruits, jellies,  nuts, seed, sugar and vegetables for their dessert.

They have a few outlets in Kuala Lumpur which located in Subang Jaya, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Kota Damansara, Kuchai Lama, Sungei Wang and Mid Valley City. I was in Pavilion! I went the with my Lover and one of my peeps before I got mobbed just recently.

I like this so much! It’s called the “Beeping UFO”, you’ll be given one after you ordered and paid. Click on the image to see what it says, its some alienation Taiwan technology! Freaky~ 😛

Dish #1: Sea Amber Jelly

A mount of shredded ice covered with amber-colored jelly and topped with pearls. This dessert look awesomely beautiful eh? It’s too beautiful that I didn’t know where to start. I felt so bad that I had to crush the jelly to mix around for the flavor. Make sure if you have this, you want to mix the entirely properly because the sugar was all the way at the base of the bowl. I didn’t know and I had only mix half way deep into the bowl. When my Lover  figured out that all the sugar was at the bottom, I have already ate half. It was a little too sweet on the final half but I thought it tasted good enough on the first half. It’s quite refreshing and thirst quenching. The dessert isn’t too plain because I get to munch on those pearls.

Price: MYR6.90

Dish #2: Pearl Tohua

My peep ordered this and it comes with slices of soybean custard, bits of shredded ice and pearls. There was heaps of pearls given! Very generous~ however my peep said that the outlet from Subang ones are better because of the iced soybean custard, the one he is having here isn’t.

Price: MYR6.90

Dish #3: Best Seller (Cold)

The first time I ate in Snowflake is this best seller and it never fail to make me to crave more. The first impression makes it so memorable. The best seller has grass jelly, grass jelly ice,  taro balls and creamer. I remember on the first time eating it, I was in love with the taro balls especially the orange ones. Its gummy and a tinge taste of sweetness, kinda like a sweet potato. The entire dessert was cold but the taro balls was warm. The presentation of the food was different too, earlier the taro balls was hidden underneath but now was all over the top. It makes the dessert quite a refreshing yet warm and cozy feeling, I really like that feeling. However for this time, the taro balls are still as good as they were but it was cold. Adding the creamer makes the dessert slightly creamier but not overwhelming. The combinations just complements everything.

Price: MYR6.90

I definitely recommend this dessert house although there is a wee bit of areas of improvement. It’s one of the best thing to have since we are in the scorching heat of Kuala Lumpur. Since it’s the month of Ramadan, it’s a great place to hang out after breaking fast!

Cheras Flat Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles

This is some delicacy not everyone would like but most Chinese would love this. Yeah, what you reading from the name of the shop is what I would like to share with you, Cheras Flat Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles.

The business starts in the morning and if you are planning to come for late lunch at about 2pm, you might risk yourself leaving with an empty stomach. The business is always busy! Their noodles are selling like hot cakes. Their noodles starting price is at MYR 7 depending on the size.

They have a few selection of noodles with fried fish head, fresh fish head, fish paste or prawn. It comes with soup base of preserved salted vegetables and there is a choice if you want to add evaporated milk into the soup. Some doesn’t like it but I love it. It makes the soup creamier.

The soup base gives a lot of flavor to the entire dish. Next most important ingredient is the fish or prawn. Its the second ingredients that gives the fragrant to the dish. Vermicelli noodles are the only noodles used in this dish, its the only noodle that complements the entire dish.

Another ingredient that adds more ‘umph’ to the dish is the cooking wine. The chef has already added some but if you want more, you may add more. You can spot about 2-3 bottle of wine around the tables.

If you have not heard of this dish, you might think the combination is freaking crazy but if you have the chance to try it, please do. I tried it once and never fail to come back. I definitely recommend this especially if you are in Kuala Lumpur, however this eatery does not have any air conditioning. but they do have ceiling fan. Be prepared with tissues to wipe your sweat off!
