Review: Guerlain Automatique Lipstick?

‘In one gesture, a cocktail of sequins and colours! Automatically ACCESSORY… Fashion accessory. Seductive object. Beauty asset. Automatically SEQUINS … A light-reflecting cocktail, made of various shimmering pearly particles, tone-on-tone, contrasting, red, blue or golden, which boosts lips with subtly sparkling scintillation. Automatically COLOURFUL … Unlike classic white pigments, crystal pigments do not have an opaque base. They are more transparent, giving purity and radiance to colours with no whitening effect. 12 new irresistible shades in an extremely fine texture that becomes one with the skin to deliver perfect moisturisation and maximum comfort. Lips are soft, smooth and deliciously glossy.’ – Guerlain

Guerlain Shine Automatique Hydrating Lip Shine  amazes me with its convenient function as a lipstick and at the same time looking exclusive and luxury. There’s no need to remove any cap, just slide little G button down and your lipstick bullet shows itself.

I received this in the shade 260 Jardin De Bagatelle which I believe the lightest shade among 12 shades available. I’m not quite sure how many shades are available in Malaysia, this lipstick was given as a gift. Its a sheer color with gold particles, should work great as an everyday wear.

I don’t have the prettiest lips but here’s a before and after applying the lip color. Please ignore the red spots on my skin, I went for facial the day before and had some extraction done.

Here are the ingredients listing: Polyglyceryl-2, Triisostearate, Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polydecene, Synthetic Wax, Methy Hydrogenated, Rosinate, Phenylpropydimethylsiloxysilicate, Polybutene, Trimethyl Pentaphenyl, Trisiloxane, Ozokerite, C10-30 Cholesterol/Lanosterol Esters, Trimethylolpropane Triisostearate, Silica, Calcium Aluminium Borosilicate, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Polyethylene, Parfum (Fragrance), BHT, Tin Oxide, Alluminium Hydroxide, Propyl Gallate, [+/-Mica, CI 77891(Titanium Dioxide), CI77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 15850 (Red 6, Red 6 Lake, Red 7, Red 7 Lake), CI 15985 (Yellow 6 Lake), CI 19140 (Yellow 5 Lake), CI 42090 (Blue 1 Lake), CI 45380 (Red 21 Lake), CI 45410 (Red 28 Lake), CI 73360 (Red 30 Lake), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), CI 77742 (Manganese Violet)]

Experience?

When I slide up the little G button down, I went WOW! This is super convenient especially when you don’t have both hands to use at times. I reckon this shade might look pale on me since it is the lightest shade and it seems really sheer from the swatch. It glides smoothly on my lips and has a tinge of floral scent to it. Though the designation of the lipstick amazes me but it does have a flaw to it. When I want to use it, I only pushed the little G button half way because I don’t want to risk breaking the bullet. While applying the edge of the lipstick does touches my lips. After I applied all over my lips and tend to reapply at the same time, some lip color get transferred on the edge.

Verdict?

The lip color doesn’t make me look pale at all. I believe the gold particles did the job to make the lip color look warmer. The particles is so fine that it doesn’t feel anything on my lips because some lipstick with particles do felt like they are scrubbing my lips. It also makes my lips look plumper and its definitely hydrating and non sticky. I have not experienced any dryness but I couldn’t really judge on the lasting power since the shade is so sheer.

How much and where to buy?

I looked out online and it should be priced at MYR120.00 – 130.00 for 3.5 grams or 12oz, available at Guerlain counters over the major departmental stores throughout Malaysia.

PROs:

  • Luxury and exclusive design
  • Convenient designation
  • Gold particles to warm up the color
  • Hydrating and non-sticky

CONs:

  • Pricey
  • Dysfunctional designation

My rating: 4.5/5

    • Hey Fiona!

Thanks for dropping by. Its quite a lovely wearable shade since it doesn’t make me look pale and I love how moisturising it is. I’m using this lipstick instead of my lip balm lately, easy to use and handy. You should try yours!
