My favorite liquid foundation is running out soon and I happened to pick Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick SPF21 PA+++ on purchase with purchase at Watsons for MYR17.90. It comes with a twist up stick like a lipstick. On the fresh stick of this foundation, I could notice the top surface of the foundation has 2 finishes with one of darker and another lighter shade. The condition of the foundation is dented with the shape of the twist up tube.
Because I made the PWP with quick decision and they didn’t have testers by the counter. I had to pick between three shade and I took the second share which is labeled natural. I was thinking that I wouldn’t go wrong with the shade natural.
In the ingredients listing, I have noticed that there is salicylic acid which explains why it is suitable for those who have combination or oily skin. It helps to absorb sebum and treats acne, therefore this foundation also helps in treating skin at the same time.
When I thought Natural shade could possibly suit my skin, I had a second thought after swatching it and notice that it is much lighter than it seems. It seems like a beige ivory shade and normally, ivory is much suitable for fair skin shade and I would fall under in medium. The consistency is like a light weight cream.
The stick foundation glides easily all over my face without tugging even around the eye area although most of the time, we are not recommended to use stick foundation on the eye area. I have tried two ways to blend the foundation by using my finger and makeup sponge. Blending with finger is much quicker and leaves much dewy finish. With a makeup sponge, it absorbs a little of the foundation while blending, leaves less dewy finish and blends in more naturally. Personally, I do feel blending with makeup sponge gives a better result.
Please pardon my puffy and tired eyes. As you can see the shade Natural is way too fair for my skin and the SPF could also be a possible factor to make it fairer. It finishes off powdery with dewy of sheer to medium coverage. You could see some of my acne mark is still visible even after the stick foundation.
I was worried that it could slip off easily, therefore I balance the shade with a darker powder foundation.
In my opinion, I think that Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick SPF21 PA+++ is suitable for normal to combination skin. Though it claim to be able to control shine, my skin began to oil up after 2 hours of applying it and the factor affecting it is not only my skin but also the humidity level. Because it is in the stick form, I couldn’t deny that it is very easy to use and blending it is not a problem at all. It doesn’t feel heavy on my skin and the coverage could last for 8 hours, probably left with 60% at the end and I did blot my skin in between the hours. The lost of coverage is also due to in between blotting as it transfers quite easily. I would still continue to use as it is easily to use and I saved quite a bit of time since I normally do my makeup before heading out.
- Easily to use
- Glides on without tugging
- Travel friendly
- Easy to blend
- Reasonable coverage lasting power
- Doesn’t control oil as much
- A little dry around the eye area
My Rating: 4/5
