Review: Maybelline The Colossal Kajal, Better Off As A Creamy Eye Liner

Kajal eye liner has been a trend and mimics the Indian eye which gives a dramatic eye makeup finish. Depend on how you would want to use it, instead of just eye lining, you could also smoke it up to create smokey eyes. I was introduced to try Maybelline The Colossal Kajal and yes, they are already on shelves!

Here’s a short commercial video before I go into my opinions on the eye liner.

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal

‘Specially formulated for eye and inner eye application. Colossal Kajal contains the deepest black pigments to intensify your eyes like hypnotic kajal trend that is taking the beauty scene by storm. Its exclusive color fix formula and unique tip ensure that you get a smooth black line in just one step. You don’t have to worry about smudges; Colossal Kajal is smudge-proof and waterproof up to 12 hours. It’s ingredients – olive esters, vitamin E, vitamin C derivatives and conditioning agents – are gentle on the eyes, preventing irritation or sensitivity.’

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal 2

Just like the Colossal Mascara, they have remained the signature bright yellow color and adopted it to this kajal blister packaging. It’s a rather simple packaging with only two shades of color of yellow and black.

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal Retractable

The eye liner is retractable and no sharpening needed at all. From here, we are able to see that the eye liner looks really dark and pigmented.

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal Swatch

While doing the swatch, I do notice that it glides easy across the back of my hand but it doesn’t seem as dark as how I was expecting it. Will see how it works when I applied it, it may be different.

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal Ingredients

From the ingredients listing, I could tell that it is free from alcohol and Paraben. Hurray!

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal Application

I prefer to use it on my waterline and it still glides smoothly upon application. However, I do find that one layer is not enough and there is a need to glide a few more times in order to make it look darker.

Maybelline The Colossal Kajal Look

This is the final look of my eye makeup, I did apply a little more on the outer corner of lower lash line and set it with a little eye shadow with hope that it could hold them up better.

Above all…

Though it is claimed as kajal, I do feel that they are more like just a creamy eye liner. I lost the excitement when I know that I need to layer during the application because I believe kajal does deliver real intense black pigments. This eye liner just didn’t do the justice as kajal.

With the promise that it could stay smudge-proof and water-proof for 12 hours, I was not convinced and it did smudge on me after more than 6 hours. The kajal was on my waterline earlier has moved to the lash line and seems to synchronized with the line that I draw on my outer lower lashes. The smudges goes down to the lash line that I had to do a clean up carefully. To work as a normal eye liner, this goes fine but to work as a kajal, I believe there is room for improvement.
