Review: Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown, Cheap, Functional & Convenient

I have a few cheap eye brow pencil sitting on my vanity. By all means when I say cheap, it doesn’t mean that it’s a bad product and not all cheap products are bad. My love for Daiso goodies never died at all and this time round, I’m hunting for more after reading Fiona’s post on Daiso Eye Brow Pencil. I reviewed the same eye brow pencil but in different shade here. I’m currently using this Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown, sounds like some hardcore scientist product. I didn’t make the name up, it is printed on the pencil.

Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown

There are tons of eye brow pencil types available in Daiso and I only look for those that comes with at least 2 function which is retractable and brush. If you ask me, why do I look for these 2 functions? Retractable because there is no need to sharpen and brush to blend without having to use another brush. Normally when an eye brow pencil comes with this 2 function, it is dual ended.

Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown 2

This eye brow pencil comes with a very fancy blister packaging. It’s a plus if you’re a fan of pink since the exterior of the pencil is pink. I always love the fancy packaging which definitely made the eye brow pencil stood out than the rest and they look more lively.

Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown Description

I’m quite happy that it comes with English on the packaging because not every product in Daiso comes with it. However, do pardon the English translation as they may sound inappropriate but it can be understood easily on how this eye brow pencil function.

Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown 3

Though it has fancy blister packaging, the design of the eye brow pencil is just simple. Duo ended, pink with gold writing and lines. The led is in oval shape which helps to give precision to drawing the brows and the brush is a basic spoolie. The cap snaps to close tightly on the earlier usage but I do notice that it gets loose overtime. When it comes to using the led, I have to ensure that it is always twisted back down because there is once I left about 2mm out after drawing my brows and snap close with the cap. The next time I use it, I noticed the led is slightly mashed on the inner cap.

Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core in Dark Brown Swatch

When I purchase this eye brow pencil, I had light hair and I was worried if dark brown could be dark for me. I was wrong and in fact if I draw it lightly, it looks very natural. Now my hair is dark brown (colored with Revlon ColorSilk Hair Color), it compliments so well. For this dark brown shade is brown shade with grey undertone, like taupe or some would say ash brown. I like it that way because it doesn’t have red or yellow undertone that could easily look mismatched. The led does felt a little stuff when I did the swatch on the hand hence it explains why it doesn’t look smooth here.

Pardon on the lack of brow hairs. As much as I want my brow hairs to be more and thicker, it’s just not happening there. I’m still using the Ardell Lash and Brow Growth Accelerator, it works but I wish it could work a little more stronger and faster. Maybe I should consider using hair tonic? I wonder which hair tonic would be effective…if you ever use any, please let me know! Nevermind the brows now, let’s get back to the pencil.

Though from the swatch it doesn’t look smooth but it glides easily when I draw my brows. The wax from the pencil seems to able to control the direction of my brow hair as I use the spoolie to lightly brush them. It stays on pretty well on the areas that is lack of brow hair.

Above all…

Paying  for only MYR5, this eye brow pencil is a great worthy grab. I have not been willing to pay much for eye brow pencil ever since I found the ones from Daiso a few years back. I bought a few other brow pencil that is in Brown which is a shade lighter than Dark Brown and they usually comes with red undertone. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it. My skin do get oil up easily including my brow area and often when I blot my skin, it did transfer and my brow seems faded a little. I do find that normal, at least it didn’t goes off completely.

Though it comes from Daiso, this eye brow pencil was made in Korea. The only backlash I could think of on this eye brow pencil is that the cap gets looser overtime but it could still stay secured and not every Daiso has this. There are times, they could have ran out of stock. If you are interested to grab this, be sure to stock at least 2. No matter if you are a beginner or pro in drawing eye brow, trust me, you could easily fall in love with this Daiso Eyebrow Pencil Elliptical Core. Dark brown shade is great for those who have black, dark brown or brunette hair color.

What Do You Use To Shape Your Brows?

Usually, I trim my brows on my own, I believe I save a lot of money that way because I don’t have to pay for beauty salon services and parking or transportation fee. I do it at the comfort in my home. Unless threading which I hardly go for too. As many people would say that brows frames your eyes giving you a stronger and balanced feature, it is true. I don’t really have lots of hair for my brows especially at the beginning of my brows, they are really sparse. I totally rely on brow pencil very much and despite of having sparse brows, I still need to shape them. Enough said, here I would like to share what tools that I use to shape my brows.

What Do You Use To Shape Your Brows - Brush

Some of the brow hairs doesn’t stay where they should be. I use spoolie to brush my brow hairs in place and you can always use other brushes to comb it. With the brow hairs in place, you will shape them easier without mistakenly plucking it and left with sparse spots.

What Do You Use To Shape Your Brows - Pencil

I do use brow pencil to draw the shape of my brows before plucking. Because I know what brow shape that works well for my face shape, drawing it will determine which hair that is meant to be removed. In another method, you can always use white eye liner to outline the shape of your brows then only removed those hairs outside the line.

What Do You Use To Shape Your Brows - Scissors

Who says that your existing brows doesn’t grow any more? They still do without you noticing. Personally, I’d like to use this small scissors that is slightly curved because it helps me to avoid over trimming my brow hairs. Alternatively, you can always the scissors that comes with a comb attached to its tip. That type of scissors will help you not to over trim your brow hairs too.

What Do You Use To Shape Your Brows - Tweezer

Of course, in order to remove the unwanted brow hairs I use tweezers. When it comes to choosing tweezers, I prefer that its tip is slanted and sharp enough to grip the brow hairs. I remember I bought this from Sasa for less than MYR 10 and it has been with me for at least 4 years. Not bad for a tweezer and it has served me right till now.

What Do You Use To Shape Your Brows - Razors

Some of the brow hairs are so fine that its almost ridiculous to use tweezers to pluck them. Easiest way that I came across is to use razors.  The width of my razors is a little wide and if you’re looking for one, try to look for razors that is smaller in width. That way its easier to get around on those narrow areas of the brows.

Review: Daiso Eye Brow Pencil in Brown, Triangular Shaped

Brows are perfectly important, they are the frames of your eyes. No matter where I go (unless I’m incredibly lazy/sick) , I would at least draw my brows especially knowing that I have really sparse brows. Filling them in will make my feature look stronger and awaken. Two weeks ago, I picked up this brow pencil from Daiso which has triangular lead. Its nothing new but coming from just MYR 5.00, I’m keen to give it a try because my brow pencil is about to finish too.

Daiso Eye Brow Pencil in Brown 2

It’s basically a brow pencil and there isn’t much information in English. It comes in a blister packaging and there are three shades available grey, dark brown and brown. The shade that I picked is brown which is the lightest shade of all.

Daiso Eye Brow Pencil in Brown - Applicator

When I pick an eye brow pencil, there are two important functions that I look into before purchasing. First that being retractable and second is it comes with spoolie/brush. Why would I look into these functions?

  • Retractable – no fuss on sharpening it, just twist for more.
  • Spoolie/brush – helps to soften/blend the brows after the pencil. Easy without having to use a separate brush.

See where I’m coming which made me purchase this? This brow pencil has the basics that I need. Although its coming from Daiso, it is made in Korea and I have been using brow pencil from Daiso, it has been working great. The triangular lead is suppose to make application easier and I would think it depends on how precise you want your brows to look like.

Daiso Eye Brow Pencil in Brown - Application

To use this brow pencil is simple and easy. You don’t have to follow exactly how I do it, you apply the way you’re comfortable with it. Remember, makeup techniques can be flexible.

  1. Use the flat surface to draw across the brows.
  2. Use the thin side for the end of the brows.
  3. Use the spoolie to soften it for a natural looking brows.

Daiso Eye Brow Pencil in Brown - Lasting Power

Test, test, test on its staying power on me.

  • 8:52AM – Freshly drawn my brows, it looks quite natural. Loving how precise it looks.
  • 11:34AM – My t-zone starts to become oily and the beginning of my brows began to fade away.
  • 1:17PM – At the arch of my brows began to fade too
  • 6:53PM – The beginning and the arch towards the end of my brows faded. No way!

Verdict?

Although it doesn’t seem to last when I did one-day-test, I used it today and it stayed on very well. My brows are still looking great and I think it really depend on your skin type for it to stay on longer. Indeed, this takes much lesser time for me to draw my brows and I’m actually quite happy with it. Not much of a complain for such an affordable brow pencil but the shade is darker from what I expected.

Price: MYR 5.00

Weight: 0.3grams

PROs:

  • Precise drawings
  • Easy two way application

CONs:

  • Darker shade than from the packaging
  • Loses it staying power for oily skin types

Review: Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow in Light Brown

Have you watched my latest video? If you haven’t please do, as I have featured my BFF and this is the first time of her to appear in many of my videos (watch here). In the video, I have introduced to her Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow which promises to create soft natural brows.

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow in Light Brown - Swatch

1. Change the impression of your brows to soft and fluffy!

The sponge applicator that comes with the Powder Eyebrow allows easy creation of soft looking fluffy eyebrows to create a stronger eye impression.

2. A fine-tipped sponge applicator

The applicator has a fine tip to facilitate drawing natural and beautiful eye brows all the way to the end.

3. Water-proof

Resistant to sweat, water, sebum and rubbing and is long-lasting.

Less powder falls off and the coloration is better if applied multiple times. *Please use an oil-based makeup remover.” – Kiss Me

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow in Light Brown - Applicator

The sponge applicator is circular cone-shaped, soft, flexible and has spring against the handle. You might be wondering where does the powder comes from. It’s actually inside of the cap and that explains why the applicator is springy. Its because the applicator touches and picks up the powder from the inside, hence you can’t have the applicator to be stiff at its position otherwise it will be broken apart.

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow Application

To use this  is easy and here is how-to.

  1. Before – My brows are really sparse at the beginning and I always prefer full and flatter brows to accustomed to my face shape.
  2. Apply – Simple run the sponge applicator onto brows as many times to create the desired brow shape. I have used feathery strokes to fill in sparse areas and goes on more heavy handed for the beginning of my brows.
  3. Ready –  This is how I usually draw my brows and the shade does appear a little too dark for me.

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow in Light Brown - Lasting Power

As usual, I always like to give it a day-test.

  • 8:50AM – Freshly applied the brow powder and from this image you can see the shade is a little dark for me.
  • 6.22PM – You can tell the difference how much it has disappeared especially at the beginning of the brows.

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Quick Powder Eye Brow - Ingredients

Here are the ingredients listing. I’m cute happy that it contains castor oil because it helps in promoting hair growth but it contains silica.

Verdict?

At my first thought, I was blaming myself for having oily t-zone that causes this brow powder not to stay on me until I read the description again that it was suppose to be sebum-proof too. Which means this brow powder didn’t work on me after all.  Since the shade doesn’t match for me, I use this to contour the sides of my nose and it works well although it didn’t last just like when I have it on my brows. I think this is better off for those who have normal to dry skin type and just needs their brows to fill in naturally. Personally, I always prefer more defined brows.
