Art of Makeup With Jose Luis & Guerlain Un Soir A L’Opera, Christmas 2014 Collection

Remember in my previous post where I have shared the tips and techniques of using Guerlain Abeille Royale? In this post, I will be sharing in creating Guerlain’s Christmas 2014 Look guided by Jose Luis Yuve using Un Soir A L’Opera which is Guerlain Christmas 2014 Makeup Collection. I have remained my eye makeup when I attended the workshop, pardon my brows, eyeliners and mascara.

‘A night at the Opera is a night of celebration. Guerlain’s 2014 holiday collection rejoices in the radiance and beauty of this magical experience while paying homage to its classic Coque d’Or perfume. First launched in 1937, Jacques Guerlain created Coque d’Or as a tribute to the opera as well as to his friend Diaghilev, the founder of the Russian Ballet.

Coque d’Or’s sensual breathtaking bottle was comprised of dark blue Baccarat crystal and finished with a thin golden layer. It drew its shape from the bow, worn by men on gala evenings and in the ballerinas’ hair. According to the legend, this ribbon offers the secret of grace and eternal seduction to those who possess it.’

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Super Aqua -Serum BB Hydra

Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum BB Hydra++

‘At the heart of Guerlain’s Super Aqua-Serum, a bestseller for the last 25 years, lies Aquacomplex, which purifies cellular water* to improve its circulation, restore a youthful appearance and provide skin with powerful age-defying hydration.
The first BB Cream infused with Super Aqua-Serum, this true Beauty Balm delivers, in a single step, instant and long-lasting hydration (12 hours)**, smoothes out wrinkles and fine lines, and evens out the complexion. This subtly-tinted, feather-light texture protects the skin from both UV rays and dehydration while perfecting the complexion for a naturally radiant glow. Comes in two shades: “”Light”” for pale to medium complexions and “”medium”” for medium to dark complexions.

*In-vitro tests ** Instrumental test – results 12 hours after application.’

After all the nourishing skincare, it’s time for some coverage to create flawless canvas. Jose reminded our foundation acts as our second skin, therefore it should not be thick but adequately to brighten up that complexion. Start with the Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum BB Hydra++, squeeze an adequate amount, warm up between the fingers to melt the product, dab all over the face and blend evenly. I definitely love this BB cream for it’s light texture and with just a small amount, it gives a very good coverage and blends easily.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Lingerie De Peau Foundation Compact

Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Compact Foundation

‘Guerlain invents the most perfect second skin with an all-in-one product. Lingerie de Peau Compact combines the powdery melt-away feel of foundation with the creaminess of a concealer to create a perfect complexion with a spectacular natural finish. Its secret: hyaluronic acid, encapsulated in the Bio-Fusion micro-mesh, continuously captures and maintains water on the skin’s surface.
The “little nothing” becomes everything… The face regains its luminous freshness and full plumpness. Hold and comfort are irreproachable all day long.
The six shades of the range leave a glowing, long-wearing tone that leaves the skin looking natural. The concealer, in a tone lighter than the shade, fuses perfectly with the skin’s natural tone. SPF 20 – PA+++’

Dust lightly over the skin with this foundation to set it for a longer lasting flawless canvas. Again, the foundation shouldn’t be thick and the powder should be applied lightly over the BB cream.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Brows

Brows defines our eyes and without brows, it will definitely make us look pale. Jose shared the basic techniques to identify selective points to identify the brow shape. Use something thin and straight such as pencil or brush handle as your pointer.

First point would be the start of the brows. Use your pointer, lean at the sides of your nose, across your tear-duct and over the brows, that would be the start of the brows. Second point would be the arch of the brows. Use your pointer again, lean at the sides of the nose, across the outer of your iris and brows, that would be your arch. Lastly, the end of the brows. Use your pointer again, lean at the sides of the nose, across the outer corner of your eyes and brows, that is the end of your brows.

Draw accordingly following your pointers light-handed as you want to create soft natural brows. Ensure to blend the brows with a brush to soften those drawings.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Petrouchka Palette Eye

Guerlain Petrouchka Palette

“The refinement of an exceptional palette to slip into your evening bag.
The case is adorned with a precious red fabric bow which can easily be transformed into a delightful bracelet or a hair tie.
The must-haves for a sophisticated beauty look: five finely iridescent eyeshadow shades and four matte or pearlescent blushes.”

On the first glance of the palette, it looks like an ordinary palette and later did I know, the palette is actually magnetically secured with another blusher quads underneath of it where I will have a photo of it for blush application.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Tutorial

Let’s get into the eye makeup and I do have my eye brows, eyeliner and mascara done before I come to this workshop. The name of the eye shadows are following as labelled in the previous photo.

  1. Apply on the crease with Deep Gold with circular motion bringing forward to the inner eye lid and ends with circular motion. Repeat the steps until you get the your desired saturation.
  2. Apply Gold on the middle of your eye lid and gently blend in with Deep Gold that was applied on the crease.
  3. To create that deep set eyes, use Black Gold to apply at the outer corner of the eye lid. Blend in circular motion and bring forward to the middle of the eyelid.
  4. Select Light/Yellow Gold, highlight at underneath the brows and inner corner of the eyes.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 The Eye Pencil

Guerlain The Eye Pencil

“A demanding expert, Madame wants it all! An all-in-one pencil capable of transforming her eyes’ expression in an instant, bending to her every whim at any time… The perfect eye contour pencil thanks to its clever combination of silky smooth waxes, luminous polymers and intense pigments, the Eye Pencil pairs high-impact colour with a vinyl shine.

Like a kohl pencil with the softness of a gel, it frames the inner eye with an intense, stay-true line. Long-lasting, no-transfer and water-resistant, it unfailingly withstands heat and tears of emotion.

Carefully considered down to the smallest detail, it is even retractable to deliver its fine pencil as needed, until it is finished.”

Redefine eyes with lining on the upper lash line, finish off with high wing out to create that cat eye look. This eye liner is creamy with dark pigmentation, not as easy to glide on as I would imagine plus with the pencil sharpness, it was challenging to create that cat eyes liner.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Cils D'enfer Maxi Lash

Guerlain Cils D’enfer Maxi Lash Mascara

‘A charming trump card and an irresistible weapon of seduction… Maxi Lash dresses up, intensifies and enhances the eyes.
Its extraordinary formula ensures breathtaking volume, curl and hold. Its secret? The combined action of three polymers: the first is coating, the second is softening and the third is setting. From the very first stroke, they act together for a simultaneous result in order to plump up and curl the fringe of lashes in a lasting and even way.’

Pump up those lashes with more volume and curl to finish off the eye makeup. I applied this mascara over my lashes (which already applied with my lashes) in zigzag motion with no worries in clumping them. No matter how many times I have layered it over my lashes, it does not clump at all. It darkens my lashes and bring them even higher whereby you could how high my lashes are lifted as though I’m wearing falsies.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Perles D'etoile Light Revealing Pearls of Powder

Guerlain Perles D’etoile Light Revealing Pearls of Powder

‘Crafted entirely in golden metal, it features the famous bow inspired by Coque d’Or sculpted on the lid.
The legendary pearls are available in blend of six light and radiant tones has been specially designed to enhance the complexion after nightfall under the lights of evening.’

Bring the glow and radiance of the skin with Guerlain Perles D’etoile Light Revealing Pearls of Powder. This powder will not give you a disco ball shine but sufficient to bring more light to your skin.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Perles D'etoile Light Revealing Pearls of Powder Technique

The Guerlain way of applying Guerlain Perles D’etoile Light Revealing Pearls of Powder. This technique is simply easy where you start at the forehead towards the temples, over the cheekbones, to the bridge of the nose, bringing down towards the nose crossing the cupids bow, lips and lastly end on the chin. Repeat the same on the other half of the face mirroring the same shape. Notice that the shape its actually a ‘G’? It is the Guerlain’s signature G where Jose is using.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Petrouchka Palette Blush

This are the quads of blusher in Guerlain Petrouchka Palette where is consist of 2 shimmery and 2 matte blushers. Their shades are light pink, rosy and plum shades. Using the same technique as Jose, swirl the brush over all of the blushers and gentle apply over the cheeks.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Rouge Parade

Guerlain Rouge Parade

‘Ready to go out, the exceptional lip colour is adorned in red lacquer, set off with a golden charm and mechanism. As precious as a jewel, the aptly named 820 Rouge Parade delivers a luminous red bullet. It is the shade worn by Natalia Vodianova in the campaign visual, attracting every eye from her balcony.’

Red lipsticks is a must for the Parisian nights. Jose also shared a little tips which shades of lipsticks to wear according to the color of your clothing.

  • Dark colored clothes – Red lipsticks
  • Light colored clothes – Orange tone lipsticks
  • Low profile clothes – light lipstick

Lipstick plays an important role to match the overall makeup. If wrong shade is selected, you may end up overly done or pale.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Rouge Parade Technique

Jose also shared how lip shapes would determine the character. Rounder shapes would give a sexy look and sharper edge gives an elegant look.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Coque D'or Perfumed Shimmer Powder Body & Hair

Guerlain Coque D’or Perfumed Shimmer Powder Body & Hair

“For the first time since its creation, Guerlain has reproduced Coque d’Or’s original bottle and reinterpreted it in gold-lacquered glass.
With a mere press of the bulb, the twirling, airy powder enfolds the hair and “décolleté” in a delicate sparkling veil. subtly scented with Coque d’Or’s legendary chypre notes, recomposed in an exclusive variation. “

Finish off with Guerlain Coque D’or Perfumed Shimmer Powder Body & Hair to add more outstanding glimmer. This can be applied over the face as well as over the body and hair. I love this as it is easy to use by pressing over the bulb where the powder sprays evenly over the surface and at the same time, giving that beautiful scent.

Guerlain Un Soir A L'Opera Makeup Christmas 2014 Look

This is the final look for this Christmas 2014 and you could also use this for New Years. This look is beautifully elegant. As long as you ensure that you blend the colors well, your makeup will look as though it was professionally done.

Merry Christmas!

It’s been a while ever since I visited another country and I heard a lot about Christmas decorations in Singapore. I visited Singapore last month and I didn’t believe it until I see it with my own eyes. It is crazy beautiful that I told myself that I have to share this with all of you. I’m not that spontaneous, really. I don’t speak so fluently, just way overwhelmed by the decorations and the only words coming out from my mouth repeatedly is ‘pretty’ and ‘beautiful’. I was busy filming and Lover was busy taking photos.

What do you think? Aren’t they beautiful? Those colorful lights just brighten up and flatters the decoration at night. I enjoyed it so much although I only spent a night there, also managed to pick up some bits from Sephora. If you would like to know what I have shopped there, check it out here.

With sincere heart, I wish everyone to have a wonderful heartwarming Christmas and New Years with family, friends and loved ones!

The Enchanted Christmas Makeup Tutorial

Christmas is just in a few days but I never leave it out without a makeup tutorial. I feel for the warmth of Christmas after watching a short clip of Beauty and The Beast The Enchanted Christmas. It’s nothing too  dramatic, something wearable especially for Christmas dinner.

Please enjoy the tutorial and scroll down for more photos!

The camera definitely absorb most of the colors or maybe because of my new lighting, it’s much heavier in real life. Christmas is always associated with winter and most people tend to be more pale at this time of the year.

Adding more warmer tones will help to enhance the pale skin. I like how the dark purple (cool tone) blends so well at the outer corner of my eyes without making it being too cool for the look. The gold eye shadow just gives more luxury to this look, the brown, red and purple eye shadows makes it romantic and the overall look is very elegant.

The finest trend recently has to be the darker or bright lips. I have select for warmer shades to complement the overall look, you can also try ruby red for this. See how the overall look is soft and subtle? With lots of love as always, I would like wish everyone

MERRY CHRISTMAS

& HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
