Review: Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether, Works Better Wet!

Sparkly sparkle, let all the glitter dust makes it magic to set glamour and elegance to the scene. This is what came into my mind about Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether

‘Moondust Eyeshadow is infused with a delicate, microfine sparkle and gorgeous 3-D pearls—for a
glistening, iridescent effect and amazing flashes of multidimensional sparkle. We recommend applying
Moondust with your fingers. For extra intense color payout, apply it with a wet finger or brush dipped in water, then blend out the edges with a dry brush.

MOONDUST EYESHADOW IS AVAILABLE IN FOUR NEW SHADES:
ETHER – light purple with pink-blue 3-D sparkle and shift
SCORPIO – matte black with gold 3-D sparkle
SOLSTICE – metallic pink-red with green 3-D sparkle and shift
COSMIC – metallic white with iridescent 3-D sparkle and shift’

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Shade

The shade that I have is called Ether , a light purple shade with pink and blue 3D sparkle and lift. As this shade is labelled on the box, the sticker does reflect the shade of the eye shadow.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Ingredients

From the ingredients listing, I could see there is talc and silica. I have no issue with these ingredient but just to highlight, if you are ingredients sensitive.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Front & Back

This eye shadow comes in a single eye shadow pot of pearlescent faint blue with transparent lid embossed with UD in the middle. The transparent lid allows ones to shade and texture of the eye shadow.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Texture

On the closer look, the texture seems gritty and what I’m worried of is will it go smooth on my eyelids as well as how much of fall outs will it be.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Removable Pan

This eye shadow pot was also designed to be able to remove from it’s casing and to be placed into your Urban Decay customized ‘build your own palette’.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Swatches

Let’s have a look over the swatch. You can definitely tell this is a heavily pigmented in purple with glitters of pink and blue. Though it seems gritty but from the swatch using my fingers, I could almost barely feel them. It’s like soft flakes that I have touched and I have created two looks using this eye shadow.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether How To Dry Application

Understand that it’s recommended to use finger for the best result but that doesn’t mean I could not use an eye shadow brush right? I’m so used to using makeup brushes and I hardly use fingers now unless I don’t have any brushes with me at all.

The first look is to dab the eye shadow on the eyelid and dab until to the desired opacity. Blend well after and it creates an iridescent beautiful sparkles around the eyes. This is the dry application technique.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Look 1

Finish off with eye liner and mascara. This look goes well for both day and night.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether How To Wet Application

Second look here is to create bold eye liner out of it. Using synthetic brush and dip into some water then the eye shadow. This is called wet application technique. Start lining on the lash line thicker than how we usually apply eye liner. Complete the line with a wing at the corner and half way to the lower lash to balance out the look. Finish off with eye liner with similar length of the eye shadow and apply mascara to boost those lashes up.

Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Ether Look 2

This look brings the edginess, elegance and glamour.

Above all…

I love this eye shadow where it gives a very beautiful sparkle. At first I lost interest with the eye shadow from the dry application because the color pay off wasn’t as good from the swatch but once I did the wet application technique, I’m in love.

For dry application, there is fall outs and it isn’t obvious for me because my lashes caught most of it. You could actually see it on the image where I show steps to apply for dry technique. I have no issues with the wet application at all, it goes on smoothly without fuss. Throughout the day, the glitter does move around  to the crease from blinking which is not an issue because it is still pretty. In conclusion, it would be best to apply this eye shadow with finger or using wet application technique.

Review: Maybelline HyperCosmos Trio Eye Shadow, Compliments Each Other Yet To Be As Opaque

I always love to look at baked eye shadows, they always come in hemisphere shape which made it looked cute. Initially, I thought these where the Maybelline HyperCosmos Eye Shadow until I look carefully and noticed that this Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow. Definitely different because the earlier version only comes with 2 shades and this comes with 3. I received 2 shades to play with and let me also share with you a short tutorial.

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow

‘The latest eye shadow from Maybelline New York is your must-have to copy the hot metallic look that is trending on the runway. a marbleized baked eye shadow, Hypercosmos TRIO Eyeshadow finishes off with a unique 3D effect and stunning metallic finish. It’s formula of unique pure color pigments and uncrushed pearls enhances eyes with intense shine and shimmer. Available in four shades, each one with a unique coloe finish: 01 Coppered Mars, 02 Venus Gold, 04 Pinky Comet and 05 Galactic Purple.

Hyper TRIO Eyeshadow is made up of three sections – primary, highlighter and liner – providing you with a fool proof application. First, apply the primary shade on you upper lid, concentrating on the outer corners. Then use the highlighter shade at the brow bone. Apply the liner shade along your lashes to create more intensity.’

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow Venus Gold - Swatch

This shade is known as Venus Gold where it showcases warm golden tones complimenting with black eye shadow.  It has pearl finish which reflects light very much and creates that dimension.

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow Venus Gold - Tutorial

Here let me share just a simple tutorial using Venus Gold.

  1. The largest section from the eye shadow will be the primary and apply it all over the eyelid.
  2. Mixing the primary and the second largest section, liner and apply at the outer corner of the eyes.
  3. The highlighter will be the smallest section, apply it underneath the brows.
  4. Apply liner with an angled brush over the lash line and use your favourite pencil liner (I’m using Maybelline Colossal Kajal) line upper and lower waterline as well as mascara.

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow Venus Gold - Traclyn

The final look doesn’t look too overpowering, it can still be worn during the day and I paired it with softer lip color shade.

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow Galaxy Purple - Swatch

The other shade I have here is Galatic Purple whereby from the name, I was expecting more purple tones yet it has more pinks to it except for the liner.

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow Galaxy Purple - Tutorial

This look will be on the fun side since the liner shade is purple.

  1. Apply the primary onto the eyelid.
  2. Apply the highlighter under the brows.
  3. Mix primary and liner together and apply at the outer corner of the eyes.
  4. Wet the angled brush and dip into the liner, start lining on your lash line and extend it. Apply your favorite mascara.

Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Trio Eye Shadow Galaxy Purple - Traclyn

This look is much more playful as it is not the usual black or brown eye liner. I forgot to apply a lip color here, best to go with bright pink lips and the entire look will be more bright and bold.

Above all…

Though the shape of the eye shadow looks cute and all, it wasn’t as pigmented as I thought it would be. In the swatches it looks like it is quite opaque because I rub in the eye shadow vigorously before swatching it into my hands. You can actually see it from the tutorial that the eye shadows is not as opaque as it seems. The pearl effect is definitely there as it could stay up the entire day and giving the 3 dimensional effect. Definitely can be played around with the shades depending on your preference.

Price: MYR 29.90

Availability: National leading pharmacies, selective departmental stores, super and hypermarkets.

PROs:

  • 3 dimensional effect
  • Easy to use
  • Complimentary combination shades

CONs:

  • Not as opaque as it seems

My Rating: 3.5/5

Review: Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Gets You Shine & Sparkle

Don’t we just love anything that comes all in one? This includes makeup and I’m here to share with you Revlon Photoready Primer + Shadow that are available on the shelves quite a while ago. An eye shadow palette that comes with primer and top coat is very much interesting isn’t it?

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow

‘Easily create limitless looks with one palette.
Each palette features a primer, 3 highly pigmented shadows, and a sparkle top coat. Use wet for more color intensity. Add sparkle top coat for a multi-dimensional, intensely shimmering effect. ‘ – Revlon

I liked how they are packaged handily and easily being held in a palm without being bulky. The eye shadows can be easily seen through the clear lid of the palette. The eye shadow pans are shaped like our eyes if you notice and I do think that there is a purpose that Revlon decided to design it this way.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Seal

Upon opening the palette, it comes with a safety seal to ensure that the palette has yet to be opened by anyone. Rest assured the palette is only by you. I have received two palettes to have my opinion on which is Bohemian and Renaissance.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow - Bohemian & Swatch

First palette is Bohemian where colors are bright and colorful.  At the back of the palette, there is instruction on how to use the eye shadow. You can always use the eye shadows as how you wanted it to be, the instruction provided is merely a basic guide. The instruction is printed on a peel off sticker where it discloses the list of ingredients underneath. Basically they are all shimmer based and only 2,3 and 4 is the eye shadow.

  1. Base  – light gold shimmer
  2. Turquoise shimmer with fine blue glitters
  3. Dark brown with fine silver and gold glitters
  4. Peach shimmer with fine gold glitters
  5. Top coat – gold with fine gold glitters

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Bohemian How To

Here is a simple tutorial just as how it is printed on the instruction.

  1. Apply the base coat all over the eyelid up to the brow bone.
  2. Using the turquoise shimmer and apply on the eye lid.
  3. Use to dark brown to apply it on the crease blending in with the turquoise.
  4. Highlight brow bone with peach shimmer.
  5. Apply the gold top coat to add warmer tone and sparkles.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow - Bohemian Eyes

Simply finish off with your favorite eye liner and mascara, and we are done with Bohemian. Remember how I said that the eye shadows are designed like so with purpose? I believe that they are also a guide on where the shadows should be applied as 2 goes onto the eye lid, 3 goes onto the crease and 4 goes onto the brow bone.  I have also used the top coat on my inner corners and lower lash line to bright more light onto my eyes.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Bohemian Look

This is how it looks like on me. I’m wearing Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Medium Beige and Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Showy Flamboyante. The Bohemian palette brings the fun colors in me and wearing the turquoise eye shadow doesn’t seem overwhelming.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow - Renaissance

The next palette is Renaissance where it brings more darker shades and I’m expecting some smokey eye look with it. Just like Bohemian, it comes with a peel-off sticker instruction and ingredients listing. Both palettes are very pigmented. These palettes comes with two dual ended sponge applicators.

  1. Base – pearl shimmer
  2. Black shimmer with fine gold pigment
  3. Dark plum shimmer with fine iridescent pigment
  4. Pale pearl pink with fine silver glitters
  5. Top coat – pale yellow with fine iridescent glitters

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Renaissance How To

Another simple tutorial to create that smokey eyes using Renaissance palette.

  1. Apply the base all over the eye lid up to the brow bone.
  2. Use the black shimmer and apply on the eye lid.
  3. Apply dark plum shade and blend it till it becomes hazy.
  4. Highlight brow bone with pale pearl pink.
  5. Apply top coat to give extra dimension to the eyes.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow - Renaissance Eyes

Finish off with your favorite eye liner and mascara. I chose to arch my brow higher and draw it look slightly skinnier to match this look. Also, I have applied top coat at the inner corners and lower lash line plus applying brown eye liner on the waterline.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Renaissance Look 2

This smokey eyes brings plum hue to the eyes, making it slightly different from the typical smokey eyes. It’s sexy and intriguing.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Renaissance Look

Here is one look without any lip color. Easily pair this with any nude or pale pink lip color to make the eyes stands out more.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Renaissance + Lacquer Balm Coy Timide Look

Or if you would like to have that strong character, go with bold lips. I’m wearing Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in Coy Timide. Both look suits very well with this palette.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Review

Above all…

I think this is quite a versatile palette in a way, given the selection of colors that is pigmented yet not too overwhelming. I do find that there is fall outs especially from the top coat as there are more glitters. It’s pretty common for glitter eye shadows.  The eye shadow is very pigmented as you can tell from my swatches and blends in easily. If you have oily eye lids, I would still recommend to use your very own eye primer as the primer from this palettes gives a light control of creasing and prep to create a greater shimmer base. I think it is slightly pricey for an eye shadow palette, I would suggest to spot for their promos! The only thing that I wish that is to have mirror in this palette. It was a little difficult having to use a separate mirror especially if you don’t have a table in front of you.

Retail Price: MYR45.90

Weight: 2.8grams / 0.1oz.

Availability: Leading pharmacies and departmental stores

PROs:

  • Comes in a decent size held in a palm
  • Clear cover to show the eye shadows
  • Pigmented shadows
  • Easily to be blend
  • Versatile palette

CONs:

  • Light crease control
  • Slightly pricey
  • No mirror

My Rating: 4.3/5
