Normally, I will lower my expectations towards mat foundation powders due to my skin type as it gets oily easily over the t-zone with the humidity in Malaysia tropical weather. When I received L’Oreal Mat Magique, I hope for the best that it will turn out good for me. Let’s go on with my 2 cents on this compact foundation.
‘It is enriched with a superior unique mineral that is a beauty breakthrough: Natural Volcanic Perlite. This mineral is known as it’s excellent matting effect and sebum absorbency, giving Mat Magique it’s 12-hours shine-free* action. Make-up looks fresh always as if you just applied it on!
While Mat Magique offers a matte finish, it never leaves behind a dull or chalky effect once associated with previous matte looks. Even with it’s lightweight airy powder, Mat Magique lets you achieve the ultimate coverage to conceal skin imperfections for a poreless-looking effect.
The results? Oil control up to 12 hours for a shine-free* perfectly matte skin effect – with just one product. At SPF coverage of SPF34 PA+++, Mat Magique also protects skin from harsh UV rays. So not only do you get a beautiful make-up effect, skin is perfectly protected for long-term beauty.
Mat Magique is available in three refillable shades that is specially formulated for South East Asian skin tones:
R1 Rose Ivory, N2 Nude Vanilla, G2 Golden Ivory’
The size of the compact is very handy, one palm be able to hold it and it will easily be fit into makeup pouch. The case is rounded, pretty much reminded me that it looks like a purse.
On the inside of the case, there is a full length mirror, compact foundation and sponge. I do find that the case might be slightly flimsy as it is full lightweight plastic.
A close up on the compact foundation and you are able to see how fine the powder is. As I have seen the texture, I’m getting more anxious to find out more about it. The shade that I have here is Golden Ivory, the darkest shade of 3 shades available.
From the ingredients listing, talc would be the main ingredient. Also, I notice that there is kaolin which is able to help to absorb oil whereby it will keep oiliness at bay. This powder is free from paraben and alcohol.
Normally, I would use makeup brush to apply my makeup and I would use sponge in the case where I’m out of reach on my brushes. For this compact foundation, I use a flat top brush to apply it on my face after liquid foundation. Though this compact foundation is quite dark, my liquid foundation is a shade lighter therefore the powder helps to balance the shade. The powder goes on and work very well with my liquid foundation.
Here is a before and after whereby my skin tone is very much adjusted from before with matte finish. The compact foundation does look very natural on me and I love how it doesn’t look cakey at all. It gives quite an effortless airbrush effect without being overly done.
I’m quite happy with L’Oreal Mat Magique especially how it doesn’t look cakey even though I layered it on top of my liquid foundation. I have been using this almost everyday now and I’m amazed how affordable it is. The only backlash for this compact foundation is that it wasn’t able to completely control oiliness because after having it on for an hour, my nose area started to oil up a little. Even so, it does help to control oil in a way that I don’t find my skin is oily as before after blotting. What I’m also happy with this compact foundation is it’s staying power especially after blotting my skin oiliness, it doesn’t come off as easily but it could stay well for me up to 6 hours.
