Review: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation, Finishes Differently Depending On How You Use It

Bourjois finally came into Malaysia not long ago and I believe that many might not know how to pronounce the brand. Bourjois is originated from Paris and pronounced as ‘bu-jouar’. They are very well known for their foundation as well as their blusher.

Currently, they only have a kiosk in Sunway Pyramid and I made a quick stop when I was stationed to work there early this month. I picked up two items and one of it is the Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation. I picked this instead of the Healthy Mix Foundation because this is infused with serum that would benefit the skin.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation Vanilla Pump

The gel foundation comes in a plastic pump bottle and up until today, I do not experience any difficulty from using it and on the bottle itself, there is brief description of the foundation.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation Vanilla Swatch

The shade that I picked is Vanilla, slightly brighter than my skin shade. When I select my shade, I did tell their BA that I need to do this quick. She did picked the shade for me and ask to apply on my hand to identify the right shade. In my opinion, testing the shade is more accurate on the jawline than hand and at the end, I tested it on my jawline myself.

I do find the texture is more to the liquid-cream instead of gel, it does feel heavy and gives quite a bit of coverage too. It is very easy to blend and gives a slight dewy finish.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation Ingredients

Despite of the vitamins infused in the gel foundation, it does contain alcohol but the foundation doesn’t smell like it has alcohol nor me facing any irritation from it. I’m very happy to find that there isn’t any Paraben from the ingredients listing.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation Vanilla Before & After

Please do ignore my tired face since I have a lot to catch up on my new job. This foundation provides light to medium coverage and you’ll be able to see the difference especially on my under eye, acne scars and redness. It gives a dewy finish, almost felt like BB cream but without the ultimate gray cast. It does look slightly lighter than my skin tone but once I apply powder over it, it gets adjusted.

Above all…

I love this foundation when I get lazy over my skincare routine or in a hurry and had to skip my skin care because it is serum infused foundation. It is a makeup with skin care properties, therefore it compensates what I have missed from my skincare. It finishes off semi-matte if I skip my full skincare regime and this method makes the foundation stays longer.

On the other side, if I go with full fledged on my skin care regime, this foundation can be heavy on me and finishes dewy as you can see on the before and after photo above.  With that, the foundation does wears off faster and I get oily easily within the first 2 hours even though I did apply powder.

Therefore, I would say this would go suitable for those who have normal to selective combination skin. If you are wondering why I would say selective combination skin, it is because some combination skin could be on the oilier side and vice versa.  I still have some skin care that I will need to review, otherwise I could have just use this foundation daily and skip my skincare regime 😛 .

Review: Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Matte Beige Ochre, Finishes Smooth and Matte Yet To Keep My Skin Oiliness At Bay

It definitely felt incomplete if I don’t use any foundation powder after my BB cream or liquid foundation especially when I could get oily easily on my t-zone area. Nevertheless, face powder is very important to me. I look through my drawers and discovered Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++  in Matte Beige Ochre. I have almost forgotten about this foundation and left it unopened for a year since that I have received it. Finally, I have decided to use it for more than a month ago and to my surprise that it has hit the pan.

Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Medium Beige Packaging

Canmake’s makeup packaging are usually very simple back then and they are now coming forward with fresher look. I’d must say that the designation of this compact is rather classy and feminine which adds so much value to it than the ordinary flat compacts. On the box and the back is where the shade is labelled and there are only two shades available which is MO (Matte Ochre) and MB (Matte Beige Ochre). The one I’m having is MB.

Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Medium Beige Open Compact

Just like your typical foundation compact, when this is open you’ll get a full size mirror and sponge applicator. I would prefer to use brushes to apply powder over my face, therefore I hardly use most face sponge. The clasp of the compact holds tight to close and I have yet to experience any accidental opened compacts.

Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Medium Beige Close Up

A closer look to the compact foundation, it is powdery smooth. From the look of it, the powder texture looks finely made.

Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Medium Beige Swatch

Here is the swatch, lightly for the top photo and blended over the skin on the bottom photo. It definitely looks like some decent fine powder but I do think that this has a light pink undertone to it which I doubted if it is going to suit for my skin.

Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Matte Beige Ochre Before & After

I have been using BB cream most of the time now and that would explain my ghastly look. My face has always been fairer than the rest of my body. To complete the face makeup, I do apply Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder SPF26 PA++ in Matte Beige Ochre. It does provide medium coverage and evens out my skin tone. To be honest, this shade is a tad bit too fair for me and from the photo, it seems that it matches my skin but in real, it does look slightly pinkish and almost a shade too fair for me.

Above all…

I love the coverage and the finishing of it where it also conceals my enlarged pores to look smaller. It leaves skin feeling smooth and doesn’t feel heavy at all. However, this foundation could not conceal severe acne and you could witness one that there is one popping above the right side of my lips. It finishes off matte and it could help my skin to hold shine for about an hour or two. I always started to get oily starting from the nose.

This foundation powder does transfer easily as I blot it every few hours and by the end of the day, the foundation powder is almost gone. Approximately 15 – 20% left? Call me lazy because I hardly do touch ups and another reason for not doing it is product hygiene. I definitely do not want to transfer bacteria or dirt from my face into the product. As much as I have shared my opinions on this compact, unknowingly I have already hit the pan. I have been using this foundation almost everyday and I would think that this foundation is better off for those who have normal to combination skin.

Price: MYR 69.90

PROs:

  • Medium coverage
  • Conceals enlarged pores
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Lightweight and leaves skin smooth
  • Matte finish

CONs:

  • Insufficient oil controlling properties
  • Low lasting power
  • Transferable

My Rating: 3.8/5

Review: Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme, Buildable Coverage That Last Exceptionally Well

I always turn to my holy grail Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation for it’s coverage and oil control power. I tend to get really picky with it comes to foundation because I like those that gives matte, at least medium coverage and with oil control properties. I get the chance to try Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme and let’s see what I have got to say for this foundation.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Nude & Medium Beige

I love that it’s package in glass jar which makes it looks more sturdy. In Malaysia, we have 4 shades available and I was sent with two shades which is 220 Nude and 250 Medium Beige which is the first two lightest shades. They both look almost the same shade though Medium Beige is suppose to be a shade darker.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Nude & Medium Beige Description

At the bottom of the glass jar, there is peel-off description and also includes the ingredient list. This does contail salicylic acid and silica.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Nude & Medium Beige Jar & Swatch

There is another jar lid preventing spillage of the foundation which I think it’s good because most of us could possibly be careless when opening the jar. The texture seems heavy and creamy from the jar.  From the swatch I could see the difference of both shades. Nude has pink undertone while Medium Beige has yellow undertone and slightly darker than Nude. Upon blending, the mousse texture felt so easy and smooth to blend.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Nude & Medium Beige Application

I apply this foundation using a stippling brush and it blends in easily. In fact, it creates quite a flawless canvas and it does feel light weight. It finishes off light matte and slightly dewy. I then set the foundation with my foundation powder.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Nude Before & After

Here is a before and after of  using 220 Nude. It seems a little light for my skin tone and I could tell how well it did cover my flaws just from one layer.  My dark circles and redness at my nose area was very well concealed. I think this shade is best to suit for those who has light and fair skin.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Nude Lasting Power

Upon testing the lasting power, I’m already in love how well it lasted. Though it doesn’t provide much oil control and I did blot away the oiliness. It did wear off a little on my nose area but considering that it has past more than 9 hours, it lasted pretty well and it did not oxidize on me.

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Medium Beige Before & After

Here is a before and after for the shade 250 Medium Beige and this is perfect for me. This is great for those who is slightly tanner than fair skin tone. Especially when I have yellow undertone, this fits as my skin shade better than Nude. I’m loving the coverage so much!

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme in Medium Beige Lasting Power

Here’s after more than 9 hours and my after seems redder, maybe because the camera picked up my lip shade, Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Showy Flamboyante. In real, it doesn’t look as red. Could you see how the coverage lasted so well?

Above all…

This is my next holy grail foundation! Though this doesn’t have great oil controlling power, I love how well the coverage stays despite of me blotting it numerous times (at least 6 times) and it doesn’t look powdery, cakey or overly done for me.  I did notice that it creases on my eyelid when I’m not wearing any eye shadow. The blending seems effortless and coverage is buildable as I tried layering on my under eye area and nose because those are the areas I knew I had to cover the flaw. I would say this is great for normal to oily skin. This mousse textured foundation comes with SPF20 and I liked how it didn’t create any white cast like how some foundations with SPF does. It is slightly pricey than the liquid foundation but the price pays for the packaging and lasting power of it.

Price: MYR69.90

Weight: 23.7ml / 0.8 fl.oz

Availability: Leading pharmacies and departmental stores nationwide

PROs:

  • Effortless blending
  • Creates almost flawless canvas
  • Medium to high coverage
  • Coverage stays very well for more than 9 hours
  • Light weight
  • Buildable coverage
  • With SPF 20 that doesn’t leave white cast

CONs:

  • Poor oil controlling property

My Rating: 4.9/5

Review: SilkyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation in Natural

Powder are crucial when it comes to setting your liquid foundation to make it last longer and greater staying power. With foundation powder, it gives much more coverage and you can also wear it alone. They are much different from normal translucent loose powder because they do come in different shades. This time, I’ll be sharing with you a powder foundation, SilkyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation SPF30/PA++.

SilkgyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation in Natural 2

Magic BB White Powder Foundation’s main  ingredient, Β-White is an innovative ingredient that effectively brightens and lightens skin tone with continuous usage. Besides that, Silica absorbs sebum to ensure you have shine-free skin all day; Vitamin E keeps skin moist, soft and younger-looking; and SPF 30/PA++ protects from harmful UV rays. Meanwhile, Kernel Butter protects and repairs skin, and White Lily Extract provides moisturizing effects to the skin. The Magic BB White Powder Foundation gives a natural and matte finish, is shine-free and fragrance free, and is formulated for Asian skin. Available in 4 shades – Ivory, Natural, Medium and Rose Beige.

SilkgyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation in Natural 3

The casing quality is very decent and the size is lengthy because it has separate compartment for the powder and sponge. This foundation powder is pressed and I hardly use sponges but I still keep it for emergency cases. It also comes with a full length mirror (which I love the most) and clasp to secure the case tightly.

SilkgyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation in Natural - Application

On before, I have already gone through my skin cares and applied BB cream. I simply use my powder brush, swirl over the foundation powder then dust it all over my face. The shade that I got here is Natural which suits my skin very much. It does help to even out my skin tone and it provides sheer to medium matte coverage, as you can see my acne scars and redness on the sides of my nose are still peeking through.

SilkgyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation in Natural - Lasting

Testing it for an entire day and hrmph…not as what I expected.

  • 8:54AM – Freshly applied the foundation with the rest of my makeup. Please bare with those poofy eyes in the morning.
  • 11:31AM – My t-zone area began to be oily and the redness underneath my nose is already showing. I blotted away the oil right after.
  • 1:16PM – Just got back from lunch, outside was really warm and humid. My face is shiny all over and the redness at the sides of my nose is much more visible. Also, blotted  all the oils right after.
  • 6:53PM – It creases on my under eye area and loses its coverage very much on my nose area, my t-zone is so shiny!

SilkgyGirl Magic BB White Powder Foundation in Natural - Ingredients

This powder does contain talc, mica, Paraben and it is made in Thailand.

Verdict?

I’m not sure how will it turn out if you pre-applied liquid foundation  first but it didn’t work on so well for me wearing it alone with BB cream. The texture is light, smooth and provides matte finish. What didn’t go well is the lasting power, it started to fade within 2 hours and it hardly controls oil.

Price: MYR18.90

Weight: 8grams

Availability: Watsons, Guardian, Carings, Sasa, major departmental stores and selected pharmacies.

PROs:

  • Good quality casing despite the affordable price
  • Light and smooth texture
  • Matte finish

CONs:

  • Starts to fade within 2 hours
  • Doesn’t control oil
  • Contains Paraben

My Rating: 3.5/5
