Review: Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation in Sand Beige with Time Release Technology

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation is by far my most favourite and never regret buying at all. The one that I have purchase was in the shade Warm Golden which turned out to be a tad bit dark for me after a few month using it. Many also asked where did I purchase the one in pump bottle, I actually repackaged it where it is more hygienic and easier to use. If only Revlon changes the packaging of this bottle, I’m sure it will be an ease for many of us. Although I love this foundation so much, I have never reviewed it but this time I’m reviewing the new improved formula with Time Release Technology.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation Time Release Technology in Sand Beige 2

  • Breakthrough patented SoftFlex™ comfort technology provides a cushioning polymer complex that is so lightweight and comfortable, you will forget you are wearing makeup.

  • Helps even out skin tone and texture for a smooth, flawless finish. A light to medium coverage that does not look or feel heavy. Softens the look on pores and minor imperfections.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation Time Release Technology in Sand Beige 3

Just like the older version of this foundation, it comes in a glass bottle like this and let me tell you that this time the foundation seems to be thicker.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation Time Release Technology in Sand Beige - Ingredients & Swatches

Just bare in mind that this foundation contains alcohol, silica and Paraben. Sand Beige is a shade too fair for me but I could still tolerate with this shade. This shade has pink undertone and the coverage is medium to high, totally buildable.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation Time Release Technology in Sand Beige - Application

Let’s take a look on how it turns out during the application.

  • Naked skin – My face without makeup, just applied skincare.
  • Applied foundation – I applied the foundation using a stippling brush and look at that coverage! It does conceal (but not completely)  my dark circles, acne scars and redness. The foundation finish isn’t matte, slightly dewy as you can see over my forehead and my cheeks.
  • Set with Powder – Sweep lightly using my foundation powder  and the  foundation now doesn’t look as fair, slightly mattified too.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation Time Release Technology in Sand Beige - Lasting Power

Lasting Power

  • 8:54AM – Freshly applied the foundation and the rest of my makeup.
  • 11:54AM – A quick update before I head out for lunch. My face oil slightly seep through  on my nose and I blotted it away right after. The rest of my face is not oily yet. The coverage is still looking good!
  • 3:14PM – The weather is superb humid outside and my T-zone began to oil up. The coverage seems intact but it faded underneath my nose a little bit. Blotted away the oil right after.
  • 6:26PM – Got back home and I’m getting more oily on the T-zone. The coverage is still as good as the previous update.

Verdict?

This foundation is as good as I have remembered it. The coverage seems to last longer than the previous version, although my face oil seeps through it but this is considered one of the best ones that I ever had. At one time I accidentally sweep my face across my BF’s shoulder, a tiny bit of foundation did transfer onto his white polo tee.  What the next best thing about this foundation is it doesn’t oxidize and the foundation remains the same just as how I applied on. I did not develop any irritation from using this foundation although my cheek area is slightly sensitive. There are 5 shades available for this foundation and this is the lightest of them all.

Foundation is Too Dark or Too Light? Don’t Toss Them Away!

Has it ever happen to you where your favorite foundation doesn’t match your skin tone anymore? Or you accidentally purchased the wrong shade? Such things happen and I think it’s pretty common. Your skin tone could change from time to time due to weather, season and/or the skin care products that you’ve used. Though the foundation shade might not be for you, that doesn’t mean that they should end up in the bin. Here is how you could still make a good use out of it.

My skin has become brighter overtime and I could tell the difference when I take photos. I really love my Revlon ColorStay Foundation and it matches my skin tone when I first bought it. With this simple technique. I don’t have to purchase another foundation. Hope you’ll enjoy this tutorial too! 🙂

THE PACKAGING

  • Frosted bottle with matte lid reflects the foundation’s formula and finish Gunmetal lid features the iconic Burberry check.

Burberry Beauty just shared with us their Autumn Winter 2012 Collection and I was pampered with their makeover, find out more here. I was provided with this foundation which is in the shade Trench No.204, a shade darker than what was used on me during the makeover. During the makeover, it was Trench No.203 which appears slightly darker than my skin tone. This foundation comes in a frosted bottle with pump and the pump head can be twisted to lock which is definitely a plus point.

This is how much for a pump of the foundation. On natural lighting, it seems like it has pink undertone. However, with camera flash, the foundation appears with slight yellow undertone. It has a light baby powder scent to it and once blend on to the skin, the foundation dries up pretty fast. The texture is slightly thick too.

Here’s a before and after of the foundation application and I did use face primer (Benefit Porefessional) before the foundation. On before is my naked skin and you’ll be able to see my acne spots on my forehead and cheek as well as redness on the sides of my nose. On the after, my skin looks even but its pretty visible that the foundation is very much darker than my skin tone. It’s much more obvious if you compare my face and neck. The coverage is medium because my acne spots is still peeking through the foundation.

I tried the foundation to test the lasting power and coverage while I was out running errants. Although with combination skin, my skin gives way if I perspire.

  • 1:34PM – This is where I have freshly applied the foundation
  • 4:17PM – My t-zone starts to oil up and blotted the excess oil right after. Coverage is still good.
  • 9:10PM – I was outside where it starts to get warm and I began to perspire. My entire face was soaked with bits of sweat and oil. I have blotted my face right after and my acne spot is slightly more visible.
  • 12:09AM – My surrounding is much cooler and I still get oily on my t-zone. Coverage wise is still as good as it was taken on 9:10PM.

Here is a comparison of before and after wearing it for 10.5 hours in total and there is no touching up with the same foundation or powder.

Ingredients Listing: Aqua (Water), Cyclopentasil. Talc, Butylene Glycol. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Cetyl Per/PPG- 10/1 Dimethicone,Polymethyl Methacrylate, Sorbitan Sesquiloleate, Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Trimethysiloxysilicate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Aluminium/Magnesium Hydroxide Stearate, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, PPG-25-Laureth-25, Sodium Chloride, Streath-21, Polymethysilsesquioxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Benzyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Nelumbo Nuficera Root Extract, Disodium Edta, Propylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Benzoate, Hydroxycitronellal, Parfum(Fragrance), (+/-) May contain CI 77891, (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI77492, CI77499(Iron Oxides), CI77007(Ultramarines)

Verdict?

I really like the coverage although it doesn’t have oil controlling properties because I do have the tendency to blot my face every now and then but of course, best if I don’t have to.  The coverage indeed lasted very well after all the excess oil and perspiration but the matte finish didn’t. After applying it, my skin does feel soft and velvety. My backlash at this point is the shade was too dark for me. I looked super tan with this shade.
