Beauty Transformation @ Dr. Ko : Fractional CO2 Laser + Subcision

Continuing  my journey for non-invasive treatments for better skin and the last time I did Fractional CO2 Laser was in  December 2013. There was improvement however it was insufficient to properly resurface my depressed scars.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre

I was given the opportunity to reclaim my beauty at Dr. Ko and would normally visit the clinic based in Cheras to undergo my treatment. My first visit was consulted by Dr. Loh Yun Ming, a very beautiful doctor who also had the same opinion as I do where my depressed scars needs to be treated as well as my troubled skin. Therefore, she had recommended for me to undergo Fractional CO2 Laser.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2 - Numbing Cream

I was pretty much ready for the laser since I have went through 3 sessions before and I do know what to expect while I am undergoing the procedure. First step, the beautician helped to apply numbing cream all over my face and the cream has to stay for at least 20 minutes for it to take effect.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2 - Remove Numbing Cream

I believed I had the numbing cream left for 40 minutes or slightly lesser. Once it is timed, the beautician helped to cleanse my skin and prep me ready for the laser.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2 - Subcission

Before proceeding to laser, subcision was done in order to work along with the laser for the treatment to work much more effectively. Subcision is also an acne scar treatment for deep scars and it an injection inserted right under the scar in and out to break out the scar tissue. As for me, Dr. Loh has injected hyaluronic acid and it will help to decrease the depth of my depressed scars.

Here is a closer look, it may seem scary and it is slightly painful yet bearable. As the laser helps to promote new skin growth, subcision will assist to provide greater and comparable result. I would be able to say that Dr. Loh is very careful and attentive as she will always inform me for every step she will take when she is doing the treatment to ensure my readiness.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2

After a few injections, Dr. Loh proceeded with Fractional CO2 laser and the feeling is exactly the same as before. The moment the laser hits onto my skin, I could literally smell the burn and it is very normal. I could not feel much pain because of the numbing cream, however when Dr. Loh hits the mark at the outline of my face, I could feel the real pain of the laser. I believe the numbing cream wasn’t applied much around the outline.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2 - Mask Treatment

This is right after the laser and not much of a redness at first. In fact, you could see a whitish layer over my skin which was the result from the laser. The prominent redness is coming from the subcision earlier. The laser leaves matrix dots in squares and this time the laser setting was made for the matrix dots to be much close together. When it is closer together, the squares are much smaller. After the laser, a layer of thick mask was applied to sooth, reduce redness and cools down my skin.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Skincare

I was recommended to use these skincare and they have been treating my skin very well as I noticed my skin is much more less troubled (lesser pimples and blackheads) and less oily. Always follow the advice provided by the beautician when they handover the skincare especially for the directions to use. Speaking from experience because I have used the Dermax Bio Exfoliating Acne Complex 13A around my nose when I just need to dab onto my acne and I ended up with peeling skin after a few days. So, it is very important to follow the instructions given.

  1. Dermax Bio Perform Cleanser 1A (RM139 West Msia)
  2. Dermax Bio Exfoliating Acne Complex 13A (RM120 West Msia)
  3. Ko Dermacare Vitality Purifying Essence 1 (RM120 West Msia)
  4. Ko Dermacare Aqua Moisturizer 1 (RM280 West Msia)
  5. Ko Series Multi-Protection SPF41PA++ (RM120 West Msia)

I will have to bare with a week of downtime and as the scabs where falling off, I could see the new skin growth is very smooth and soft. I did it over the weekend and I was protecting my skin not only with the sun block that they have provided but a facial mask. I was wearing it when I was working in my office.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2 - Before & After Front

Here is a comparison of before and after. It doesn’t show dramatic results as it has to follow the nature of my skin to heal and repair. Indeed I do notice that my skin is much smoother, even toned and glowing. Do bare in mind that after the laser, my skin was really dry hence how my skin looks on the after. I was getting compliments from my colleagues and BF’s uncle.

Dr Ko Skin Specialist Centre Fractional CO2 - Before & After Side

This would be the comparison of side by side. My skin definitely became much fairer from the laser as well. Definitely need to work further for the depressed scars.

Fractional CO2 Laser is priced at MYR1800 per session at Dr.Ko and this would differ from promotional or offer packages. Normally subcision will be given complimentary if you sign up for the package. For more information, you could visit KoSkinSpecialist.com or call in to the nearest clinic near you. I will continue my beauty adventure with Dr. Ko and please stay tuned as I have more to share of my next treatment. Fractional CO2 Laser, Before and After 3 Sessions Comparison

It has been more than 2 weeks after my last visit for my Fractional CO2 Laser. This would be the best time to make a comparison for those who wondered how well this treatment has done for me. If you haven’t know, I have undergone 3 sessions of Fractional CO2 Laser with the expectation of improving depressed scars in Mediviron UOA Clinic. You can read here, session 1, 2 and 3.

Fractional CO2 Laser After 3 Treatments - Face

Here is a comparison of after each treatment where my skin has already recovered from the down time. It took me a week to fully recover and for all the scabs fall off by itself. For my overall face, it does improve my skin texture. My skin did felt smoother and blackheads are much lesser too.

Fractional CO2 Laser After 3 Treatments - Nose Area

Please bare with my unflattering big nose. Because I am aiming for improving depressed scars, I’m more particular on my nose area. There is a significant improvement  to the depressed scars as pointed by the little arrows after each treatment. However, the improvement is not as dramatic and they are still visible. I was told that 3 sessions wouldn’t be able to totally resurface my skin entirely.

Fractional CO2 Laser After 3 Treatments - Before After Nose

While I have just compared photos of after every treatment, I would like to share with you the before and after. The ‘before’ is where my skin hasn’t been treated with the laser and ‘after’ is after undergoing 3 sessions of the laser.  I could tell there is a difference, those scars are less deeper now.

Fractional CO2 Laser After 3 Treatments - Before After Face

Here is also a comparison of before and after 3 treatments of laser. My skin looks more radiant now as to compare before doing laser. Most significant improvement is also acne scar marks faded well.

Considering that I have witness the improvement by comparing the photos and also compliments from my friends and family, I might consider to continue doing Fractional CO2 Laser according to my affordability. This is first time for me to undergone aesthetic treatment and not regretting it.

Aesthetic treatments are slowly gaining their popularity in Malaysia but people are still doubting the effectiveness and its safety. I would say as long as you do your research on the clinic and doctor, as well as reviews, it shall be fine. For aesthetic treatments, I would recommend going to recognized clinics and have doctors to run the treatment for you.  I’m one proof for you on the effectiveness of Fractional CO2 Laser although it doesn’t show drastic changes because it depends on your skin recovery. You can always drop me any questions about it through the comment section below or drop me an email through my contact if you prefer to discuss in private. I’ll be happy to explain further to you because I understand that everyone deserves to be beautiful and there’s always room for improvement.

My Third Fractional CO2 Laser, Redder & Longer Downtime

Through my journey of undergoing Fractional CO2 Laser treatment, some of you have asked how the treatment was and have my skin improve from the treatment. I would say my skin did improve and I have received compliments that my complexion looks better now.  Precisely, my BF’s uncle who mentioned it out of blue when we were speaking of lifestyle and health. The comments just didn’t stop there because it also comes from Facebook and Instagram where friends and readers noticed my skin has been improving. With this, I’m sharing my third treatment experience last Saturday after 3 weeks from my second treatment. You can also tap into my previous treatment experience, first and second treatment.

Fractional CO2 Laser

As for my third treatment, it is similar to what was done on my second treatment where subcision was involved and laser comes after. Because Dr Lashela did mention that she will set to an even stronger beam, the beautician had applied numbing cream for me twice as to a stronger numbing effect too. During the subcision, I did felt a little pain as doctor injected it under my depressed scars around my nose and cheek area, it is literally slightly more painful than the laser. Since the numbing cream has been doubled the application, I couldn’t feel any pain from the laser at all. Do bare in mind that the subcision and Fractional CO2 Laser are priced differently.

Fractional CO2 - After Treatment

This is me after my treatment and yes, my face was as red as a monkey’s butt. Just like how doctor mentioned, as the beam goes stronger the downtime will be longer too which I didn’t mind at all. The down time for my second treatment took about a week slightly faster than the first, maybe because I have started on Retin-A cream which actually helps in healing and build collagen. You can see also some scabs on my nose on the after photo which was the result from the subcision. This time doctor didn’t give me any jabs to reduce the reddening like how she did on my second treatment but I’m fine with it as I decided to rest at home after the treatment.

Fractional CO2 Laser - After 2 Treatments

Since I have already done a few treatments, I wanted to share a comparison on my overall face skin texture improvement. I tell you nothing but the truth, look at the photos and you can tell that my skin became smoother gradually.

Fractional CO2 Laser - After 2 Treatments Close Up

Here’s a close up and if you look closely, the depressed scars on the side of my nose is improving too. I would like to add on to this that the size of the blackheads that was extracted off from my face are getting much smaller. I’d like to think that pore size not only shrunk by the skin surface but deep within my skin, it has shrunk. This is a good news as to my pores is no longer allowing the dirt and sebum to further clog as much as before.

Fractional CO2 Laser - Nose Area After 2 Treatments

As I did mentioned from my first treatment, I was looking out to improve my depressed scars and I have a lot of them particularly on my nose area. Here is close up comparison on my nose area, please excuse my big nose 🙁 . With the tiny arrows pointing at the scars, you can actually see that they are improving gradually after each treatment. They are either less deep or the scar size has shrunk. I will further show you the difference again after my downtime of my third treatment is over.

Previously, I was unhappy with their arrangement on my second visit for the treatment as mentioned in my previous post. I have showed my concern to Mediviron UOA Clinic and I see improvement this time! Everything was arranged as accordingly just like how it was for my first treatment with lesser waiting time. I’m thankful that they have taken my feedback into consideration as I believe this will not only cater for me but also for their future potential customers. My Second Fractional CO2 Laser, An Intensive Further Treatment

It has been a month after I have done my first Fractional CO2 Laser and it was a great experience. In the previous post, my target for undergoing this treatment is to improve my depressed scars. Do note that there is downtime from undergoing this treatment and it took 9 days for all the scabs to completely shed off from my face and within the 9 days, I have not used any whitening skin care or mask.

Fractional CO2 Laser

My second visit this time, I wanted to tell Dr Lashela if I could undergo for stronger beams because I didn’t feel that the last treatment was strong enough. Before I could say so, Dr Lashela examined my skin and she also felt that those depressed scars especially on my nose area is quite severe. She suggested subcision, stronger beams and asked if I mind with a longer downtime.  As though Dr Lashela could read my mind, I agreed with her that my depressed scars are very prominent and told her I wouldn’t mind the longer down time.  I really want to see a greater improvement.

Fractional CO2 Laser - Before & After

Before looking into what I have undergone for my second visit. Let’s just make a comparison on after the first session. On before photo is when I have yet to undergo the treatment and after is before undergoing the second session. My skin texture seems to be improved and several redden acne scars seem to diminished. Do bare in mind on my after photo I did apply some BB cream.

Fractional CO2 Laser- Before & After Close Up

Here is a close up of before and after the first session. My skin texture does look slightly smoother than before and after my downtime, I did notice that some of the blackheads come off easily. Also, lesser blackheads and sebum build-up under my skin too but I still get breakouts periodically.

=Fractional CO2 Laser - Subcision

What makes it different from my first session is not only that the beams are much stronger but subcision was included. Subcision is a procedure to treat deep ‘rolling’ scars that were caused by acne or other skin disease, you can also read further information here. Just like the first treatment, I had my face numbed with numbing cream before my treatment starts. Above is where the subcision was done where the needle is inserted multiple times of the same area on my depressed scars that can be found mostly on my nose, cheek and forehead. It may look scary but because my skin was numbed earlier, the injection is less painful. After subcision was completed, doctor proceeded to the laser. Doctor also gave a a jab that helps to reduce redness after the laser.

Fractional CO2 Laser - After The Treatment

Here is a before and after the treatment. I’m not sure if you can tell but this time is much redder and swollen than before. You can also see some traces of blood from the subcision on my nose. I find that the jab that helps to reduce redness also controls the swelling because throughout the day, I don’t feel my face is much swollen too.

Fractional CO2 Laser - Day 3

This is the photo that I have shared in my Instagram on the day 3 after the laser. Again, you can see the grid-like patterns and if you look closely, there are some dark patches on my cheek and nose area. I believe the size of the area for the laser is adjustable as those dark patches are actually smaller grid patterns.

My Appointment…

I have set my appointment at the earliest of the day which is 8:30am on last Saturday and I did turn up punctually. However the wait was a little too long (more than 2 hours) and I was informed by the beautician there was quite a number of patients that day. My treatment started at 11:15am. For the long wait, the numbing cream also seeped into my eyes that stings very much and I had to wipe it off myself.

I strongly believe that this needs to be improved. I do have one more session to go with Mediviron UOA Clinic and I hope this will never happen again.
