Review: OXY Oil Control Mattifying Gel, Instant Mattifying Effect But…Broke Me Out

Anything that helps to mattify, I’m up for it. It sounded like some desperate measures and I can’t help it because of my combination skin. I struggle to find the right product to control my skin oiliness especially on the t-zone area. Only people with combination to oily skin would understand my dilemma. I saw an update a while ago from Oxy Malaysia Facebook about their Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel, I couldn’t hesitate it and made my purchase.

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel

‘The new advanced oil absorbing OXY Mattifying Gel, let’s you BE IN CONTROL of facial oil. Formulated with a triple oil control system, it instantly absorb oil to get rid of shine and minimize pores for an instant matte look.’ – OXY

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel 2

It looks just like any other skin care but I do find that it’s quite a generous amount considering how affordable this is.

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel Tube

It is a squeeze tube where it comes with a seal which indicates that it is brand new without anyone tested the product before.

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel Description

It claims to provide long lasting oil control and mattify oily skin whilst keeping it hydrated. The Triple Oil Control System that was mention is that it controls shine, refine pores and 24 hours hydration. Each of the component of the Triple Oil Control System has key ingredients that contributes it’s function.

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel Texture

The texture of gel is white and looks like emulsion and indeed is does give instant mattifying effect right after blending it. I’m impressed how quick it gets into my skin and I was impatient to use it on my face but I wasn’t sure if this can be use as a makeup base. However, I followed the instruction by using it right after toner.

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel Before & After

Here is how well the gel worked on my skin. I do have combination skin and you could see the difference especially on the t-zone area. My pores seems less visible and it helped to brighten my skin too. I was impressed how fast the gel worked. Upon continuing my skin care regime, everything else seems to absorb faster.

Oxy Oil Control Mattifying Gel Ingredients

I believe the secret to the mattifying effect is also dimethicone and silica.  This gel do contain alcohol and paraben.

Above all…

I fell in love with the gel on the very first of using it. Unfortunately, I started to break out on the first week of using the gel and I have gotten more blackheads than before. It felt like the gel clogged my skin and lead to breakouts. It could just be my skin.

I put a stop when I noticed the continuous breakouts and allow my skin healed slowly. I started using it again but I only applied it after my serum and before my sun block, just to ensure my serum does the job before the gel.  It seems to work better this way. It does help to control oil because I do realize my skin is less oily than it used to.  Do not expect that it holds up the oil throughout the day, as for me I would still need to blot my skin but not as often as before. Through it recommends to reapply if needed, I find that it was difficult to blend with my makeup on. It makes my foundation uneven and that is something you never want to happen. I will use this gel for the time being and at the same time I will be looking for better ones.

Considering that it is quite affordable, this goes great for non makeup users on daily basis with reapply. You can definitely bring them everywhere you want. I purchase this at a promotional price from Watsons, I believe their retail price is MYR15+.

Review: BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base, Creating That Effortless Luminous Skin

Thanks to the Korean trend that now many of us will appreciate to have that glowing luminous healthy skin. I’m not going to miss this out although I have combination skin, I do love to have that effortless radiant skin. I was given the opportunity to try BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base to achieve that glow. Please do stay tuned as I will be giving away this makeup base in my next post!

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base

‘BRTC’s Jasmine 3D Luminous Base is rich in fine pearl particles. Upon application, it will give you a radiant and 3D-looking pearly skin. Upon application, it provides an instant supply of moisture to the skin and maintains moist skin for a long time’ – BRTC

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base - Description

Basically this is a makeup base that create the luminous glow on your skin, it’s like your skin radiance booster. The fine pearl particles helps to reflect light giving that 3D effect to the skin. It also moisturises your skin and recharge them. This meant to use after your skin care regime and before your makeup. Apply it on high points of your face such as forehead, nose, cheekbones, chin or you could also use on entire face.

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base - Tube

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base comes in a tube form and pointed tip to dispense the product. This is what I like about it because we can have a better control in squeezing the amount of product that we want to use without any wastage.

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base - Texture

The texture is a very light cream that blends easily and the fine pearl particles has that shimmery purple hue which helps to correct yellow undertones. Once blended, it looks like its nothing and this is buildable if you like to have a greater effect. It doesn’t feel greasy and left my skin feeling smooth. Although it’s jasmine, the scent smells nothing like jasmine at all. It has a light floral scent that is not overpowering.

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base - Before & After

Here is a before and after applying the base. Please pardon my dark circles, puffy and squinting eyes in the morning. On before, I had applied my skin care including sun block and on after is this base, foundation, powder and the rest of the eye makeup. It is recommended to layer on BB cream after the base but the BB cream that I have doesn’t provide much coverage for my dark circles, therefore I opted the foundation instead. I did apply on my entire face because I want that entire glow on my face. With the base, I do noticed that my skin is less yellow.

BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base - Lasting Power

I have recorded one-day test with the BRTC Jasmine 3D Luminous Base and this is the result.

  • 8:55AM – where I have it freshly applied and head to my office.
  • 12:10PM – My t-zone got slightly oily, other areas such as my cheek and chin is still fine. I like the state of my face right here, where it looks glowingly healthy. I blotted my face right after.
  • 5:17PM – At this hour my face is oily all over, the foundation seems to fade a little because the redness of my face started to show. I blotted my face right after again.
  • 6:37PM –  Pardon from the off from work tired face. My face is again pretty much greasy all over but still maintain to look rosy.

Verdict?

I love that it is light-weight and doesn’t give that overly glossy look on my skin. Also it helped on correcting my yellow undertone, leaving my skin looking rosy instead.  Throughout the usage of this, it did kept my skin moisturised but the only backlash of this base is that it doesn’t have oil controlling properties which wasn’t promised from the first place. Once the oil started to seep, the makeup tend to wear off easily. I do think that this suits better for those who have normal to dry skin.

Review: Transform Me Smooth, L’oréal Paris Base Magique Smoothing Transforming Smoothing Primer

‘Smoothness you can touch, transformation you can see, even upclose.

Transform your bare skin texture: The 1st smoothing primer that makes your lines and pores invisible for a visible and touchable smoothness.’ – L’oréal Paris Base Magique Smoothing Transforming Smoothing Primer

“Sensational Velvet Texture

A unique blend of silicon oils and soft light powders create a sensational smoothing velvet formula to refine skin.

  • Smooth wrinkles and lines
  • Perfectly hides pores
  • Skin imperfections are corrected

The rosy shade brings out the translucency on the bare skin tone.’ – L’oréal Paris

When this came to Watsons, I tested it out and I love it! I knew I had to get this and purchased it for MYR45.90. It comes in a petite jar of 15ml, somewhat like a eye cream jar and its made out of glass. When I first opened it, it looked so smooth and pretty. Almost felt like I didn’t want to use it but that’s going to be redundant. The texture is creamy, light, soft and unscented like mousse. When I have long nails, I used a spatula to scoop it out of the jar and this is then I wish that they could come in tube form.

I only used Bioré UV Perfect Face Milk SPF50+ PA+++ as my face makeup base, the only base that I have tried but that has SPF and gives unwanted shine when it comes to flash photos. This makeup base is great day or night and see how it diminish shine around my T-zone area? Also it makes my skin look less yellow-ish.

However when it comes to blending it, you got to be precise and careful. If you don’t, you’ll get unblended patches around your face like how it happened on my under eye area.  Once blended, my skin felt smooth and velvety. Seriously, not kidding! Although it comes in a small jar, you don’t have to use lots of it. I use about two third of a pea size to apply on my entire face.

Here are the ingredients listing. By far, my skin didn’t have any bad reactions to it and I was surprised that it contains titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide are usually found in sun blocks to reflect light but for this base, no SPF was mentioned. I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re allergic to any ingredients listed above.

Verdict?

I love this and it is definitely worth purchasing! Makeup application is far smoother when I have this on and it helps to hold my makeup longer than I expected. My face usually oiled up within 2 hours but this has extended it. I have combination skin now (previously was oily) and my t-zone area oils up by the third or forth hour depending on the activities I’m doing. If I’m in the air conditioned area, it doesn’t oil up as easily up to 6-7 hours. It goes on easy and smoothly on face and as I mentioned above, got to be precise when applying. My dilated pores does look less visible but I can’t really judge for wrinkles and lines because  I don’t have any obvious lines to prove this. Since I have pitted scars, this base does settle into the scars. Its not too obvious until you look up-close.

Where to buy and how much?

They are retailing at MYR45.90 at Watsons and Guardian but they are getting cheaper lately, at about MYR30+? Depending on the retailers for their offer, promotions or discounts, price offered varies. You may also find it at any supermarket or departmental stores that brings L’oréal.

PROs:

  • Smoother makeup application
  • Velvety smooth skin
  • Mattifies skin
  • Dilated pores less visible
  • Holds up makeup longer
  • Adjusted my skin undertone
  • Economical

CONs:

  • Had to use spatula for long nails

My rating: 4.8/5
